Ad-Duhaa (The Morning Hours)

Verse 4of 11

وَلَلْءَاخِرَةُ خَيْرٌۭ لَّكَ مِنَ ٱلْأُولَىٰ﴿٤

Translation (Sahih International)

And the Hereafter is better for you than the first [life].

Word-by-word meaning

وَلَلْـَٔاخِرَةُwalalākhiratuAnd surely the Hereafter
خَيْرٌۭkhayrun(is) better
لَّكَlakafor you
مِنَminathan
ٱلْأُولَىٰl-ūlāthe first

Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

Which was revealed in Makkahبِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـنِ الرَّحِيمِ (In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.The Reason for the Revelation of Surat Ad-DuhaImam Ahmad recorded from Jundub that he said, "The Prophet became ill, so he did not stand for prayer for a night or two. Then a woman came and said, `O Muhammad! I think that your devil has finally left you.' So Allah revealed,وَالضُّحَى - وَالَّيْلِ إِذَا سَجَى - مَا وَدَّعَكَ رَبُّكَ وَمَا قَلَى (By the forenoon.
