Adh-Dhariyat (The Winnowing Winds)

Verse 59of 60

فَإِنَّ لِلَّذِينَ ظَلَمُوا۟ ذَنُوبًۭا مِّثْلَ ذَنُوبِ أَصْحَٰبِهِمْ فَلَا يَسْتَعْجِلُونِ﴿٥٩

Translation (Sahih International)

And indeed, for those who have wronged is a portion [of punishment] like the portion of their predecessors, so let them not impatiently urge Me.

Word-by-word meaning

فَإِنَّfa-innaSo indeed
لِلَّذِينَlilladhīnafor those who
ظَلَمُوا۟ẓalamūdo wrong
ذَنُوبًۭاdhanūban(is) a portion
مِّثْلَmith'lalike
ذَنُوبِdhanūbi(the) portion
أَصْحَـٰبِهِمْaṣḥābihim(of) their companions
فَلَاfalāso let them not ask Me to hasten
يَسْتَعْجِلُونِyastaʿjilūniso let them not ask Me to hasten

Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

All Messengers met the Same Type of Denial from Their NationsAllah comforts His Prophet by saying to Him, `just as these idolators denied you, the disbelievers of old used the same words with their Messengers,'كَذَلِكَ مَآ أَتَى الَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِهِمْ مِّن رَّسُولٍ إِلاَّ قَالُواْ سَـحِرٌ أَوْ مَجْنُونٌ(Likewise, no Messenger came to those before them but they said: "A sorcerer or a madman!") Allah the Exalted and Most Honored said,أَتَوَاصَوْاْ بِهِ(Have they transmitted this saying to these)...
