Verse 31of 35

يَٰقَوْمَنَآ أَجِيبُوا۟ دَاعِىَ ٱللَّهِ وَءَامِنُوا۟ بِهِۦ يَغْفِرْ لَكُم مِّن ذُنُوبِكُمْ وَيُجِرْكُم مِّنْ عَذَابٍ أَلِيمٍۢ﴿٣١

Translation (Sahih International)

O our people, respond to the Messenger of Allah and believe in him; Allah will forgive for you your sins and protect you from a painful punishment.

Word-by-word meaning

يَـٰقَوْمَنَآyāqawmanāO our people
أَجِيبُوا۟ajībūRespond
دَاعِىَdāʿiya(to the) caller
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
وَءَامِنُوا۟waāminūand believe
بِهِۦbihiin him
يَغْفِرْyaghfirHe will forgive
لَكُمlakumfor you
مِّنminof
ذُنُوبِكُمْdhunūbikumyour sins
وَيُجِرْكُمwayujir'kumand will protect you
مِّنْminfrom
عَذَابٍʿadhābina punishment
أَلِيمٍۢalīminpainful

Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

The Story of the Jinns listening to the Qur'anImam Ahmad recorded from Az-Zubayr that he commented on the Ayah;وَإِذْ صَرَفْنَآ إِلَيْكَ نَفَراً مِّنَ الْجِنِّ يَسْتَمِعُونَ الْقُرْءَانَ(And (remember) when We sent towards you a group of the Jinn, to listen to the Qur'an.) "They were at a place called Nakhlah while Allah's Messenger ﷺ was performing the `Isha' prayer, andكَادُواْ يَكُونُونَ عَلَيْهِ لِبَداً(they crowded on top of each other to hear him.
