Al-Ahqaf (The Wind-Curved Sandhills)

Verse 6of 35

وَإِذَا حُشِرَ ٱلنَّاسُ كَانُوا۟ لَهُمْ أَعْدَآءًۭ وَكَانُوا۟ بِعِبَادَتِهِمْ كَٰفِرِينَ﴿٦

Translation (Sahih International)

And when the people are gathered [that Day], they [who were invoked] will be enemies to them, and they will be deniers of their worship.

Word-by-word meaning

وَإِذَاwa-idhāAnd when
حُشِرَḥushiraare gathered
ٱلنَّاسُl-nāsuthe people
كَانُوا۟kānūthey will be
لَهُمْlahumfor them
أَعْدَآءًۭaʿdāanenemies
وَكَانُوا۟wakānūand they will be
بِعِبَادَتِهِمْbiʿibādatihimof their worship
كَـٰفِرِينَkāfirīnadeniers

Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

Which was revealed in Makkahبِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـنِ الرَّحِيمِ In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.The Qur'an is a Revelation from Allah and the Universe is His True CreationAllah informs that He has revealed the Book to His servant and Messenger Muhammad -- may Allah's blessings be upon him until the Day of Judgement. Allah then describes Himself as being of unimaginable glory, possessing ultimate wisdom in His statements and actions.
