Al-Anbiya (The Prophets)
Verse 57of 112
وَتَٱللَّهِ لَأَكِيدَنَّ أَصْنَٰمَكُم بَعْدَ أَن تُوَلُّوا۟ مُدْبِرِينَ﴿٥٧﴾
Translation (Sahih International)
And [I swear] by Allah, I will surely plan against your idols after you have turned and gone away."
Word-by-word meaning
وَتَٱللَّهِwatal-lahiAnd by Allah
لَأَكِيدَنَّla-akīdannasurely, I will plan
أَصْنَـٰمَكُمaṣnāmakum(against) your idols
بَعْدَbaʿdaafter
أَنan[that]
تُوَلُّوا۟tuwallūyou go away
مُدْبِرِينَmud'birīnaturning (your) backs
Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)
How Ibrahim broke the IdolsThen Ibrahim swore an oath, which some of his people heard, to plot against their idols, i.e., to break them and destroy them after they had gone away and turned their backs, when they went out to their festival. They had a festival which they would go out to celebrate.
