Al-Anbiya (The Prophets)
Verse 61of 112
قَالُوا۟ فَأْتُوا۟ بِهِۦ عَلَىٰٓ أَعْيُنِ ٱلنَّاسِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَشْهَدُونَ﴿٦١﴾
Translation (Sahih International)
They said, "Then bring him before the eyes of the people that they may testify."
Word-by-word meaning
قَالُوا۟qālūThey said
فَأْتُوا۟fatūThen bring
بِهِۦbihihim
عَلَىٰٓʿalābefore
أَعْيُنِaʿyuni(the) eyes
ٱلنَّاسِl-nāsi(of) the people
لَعَلَّهُمْlaʿallahumso that they may
يَشْهَدُونَyashhadūnabear witness
Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)
How Ibrahim broke the IdolsThen Ibrahim swore an oath, which some of his people heard, to plot against their idols, i.e., to break them and destroy them after they had gone away and turned their backs, when they went out to their festival. They had a festival which they would go out to celebrate.
