Verse 241of 286
وَلِلْمُطَلَّقَٰتِ مَتَٰعٌۢ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ ۖ حَقًّا عَلَى ٱلْمُتَّقِينَ﴿٢٤١﴾
Translation (Sahih International)
And for divorced women is a provision according to what is acceptable - a duty upon the righteous.
Word-by-word meaning
وَلِلْمُطَلَّقَـٰتِwalil'muṭallaqātiAnd for the divorced women
مَتَـٰعٌۢmatāʿun(is) a provision
بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ ۖbil-maʿrūfiin a fair manner
حَقًّاḥaqqana duty
عَلَىʿalāupon
ٱلْمُتَّقِينَl-mutaqīnathe righteous
Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)
Ayah (2:240) was abrogatedThe majority of the scholars said that this Ayah (2:240) was abrogated by the Ayah (2:234), what Allah said:يَتَرَبَّصْنَ بِأَنفُسِهِنَّ أَرْبَعَةَ أَشْهُرٍ وَعَشْرًا(...they (the wives) shall wait (as regards their marriage) for four months and ten days.
