Al-Isra (The Night Journey)

Verse 72of 111

وَمَن كَانَ فِى هَٰذِهِۦٓ أَعْمَىٰ فَهُوَ فِى ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ أَعْمَىٰ وَأَضَلُّ سَبِيلًۭا﴿٧٢

Translation (Sahih International)

And whoever is blind in this [life] will be blind in the Hereafter and more astray in way.

Word-by-word meaning

وَمَنwamanAnd whoever
كَانَkānais
فِىin
هَـٰذِهِۦٓhādhihithis (world)
أَعْمَىٰaʿmāblind
فَهُوَfahuwathen he
فِىin
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِl-ākhiratithe Hereafter
أَعْمَىٰaʿmā(will be) blind
وَأَضَلُّwa-aḍalluand more astray
سَبِيلًۭاsabīlan(from the) path

Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

Everyone will be called by his Imam on the Day of ResurrectionAllah tells us that on the Day of Resurrection, he will call each people to account by its Imam. The scholars differed as to the meaning of this (i.e. Imam. Mujahid and Qatadah said that it meant each nation would be called to account by its Prophet. Some of the Salaf said this is the greatest honor for the people of Hadith, because their leader is the Prophet .
