Al-Ma'idah (The Table Spread)

Verse 20of 120

وَإِذْ قَالَ مُوسَىٰ لِقَوْمِهِۦ يَٰقَوْمِ ٱذْكُرُوا۟ نِعْمَةَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ إِذْ جَعَلَ فِيكُمْ أَنۢبِيَآءَ وَجَعَلَكُم مُّلُوكًۭا وَءَاتَىٰكُم مَّا لَمْ يُؤْتِ أَحَدًۭا مِّنَ ٱلْعَٰلَمِينَ﴿٢٠

Translation (Sahih International)

And [mention, O Muhammad], when Moses said to his people, "O my people, remember the favor of Allah upon you when He appointed among you prophets and made you possessors and gave you that which He had not given anyone among the worlds.

Word-by-word meaning

وَإِذْwa-idhAnd when
قَالَqālasaid
مُوسَىٰmūsāMusa
لِقَوْمِهِۦliqawmihito his people
يَـٰقَوْمِyāqawmiO my people
ٱذْكُرُوا۟udh'kurūremember
نِعْمَةَniʿ'mata(the) Favor
ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
عَلَيْكُمْʿalaykumupon you
إِذْidhwhen
جَعَلَjaʿalaHe placed
فِيكُمْfīkumamong you
أَنۢبِيَآءَanbiyāaProphets
وَجَعَلَكُمwajaʿalakumand made you
مُّلُوكًۭاmulūkankings
وَءَاتَىٰكُمwaātākumand He gave you
مَّاwhat
لَمْlamnot
يُؤْتِyu'tiHe (had) given
أَحَدًۭاaḥadan(to) anyone
مِّنَminafrom
ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَl-ʿālamīnathe worlds

Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

Musa Reminds His People of Allah's Favors on Them; The Jews Refuse to Enter the Holy LandAllah states that His servant, Messenger, to whom He spoke directly, Musa, the son of `Imran, reminded his people that among the favors Allah granted them, is that He will give them all of the good of this life and the Hereafter, if they remain on the righteous and straight path.
