Al-Mu'minun (The Believers)

Verse 32of 118

فَأَرْسَلْنَا فِيهِمْ رَسُولًۭا مِّنْهُمْ أَنِ ٱعْبُدُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ مَا لَكُم مِّنْ إِلَٰهٍ غَيْرُهُۥٓ ۖ أَفَلَا تَتَّقُونَ﴿٣٢

Translation (Sahih International)

And We sent among them a messenger from themselves, [saying], "Worship Allah; you have no deity other than Him; then will you not fear Him?"

Word-by-word meaning

فَأَرْسَلْنَاfa-arsalnāAnd We sent
فِيهِمْfīhimamong them
رَسُولًۭاrasūlana Messenger
مِّنْهُمْmin'humfrom themselves
أَنِani[that]
ٱعْبُدُوا۟uʿ'budūWorship
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
مَاnot
لَكُمlakumfor you
مِّنْmin(is) any
إِلَـٰهٍilāhingod
غَيْرُهُۥٓ ۖghayruhuother than Him
أَفَلَاafalāThen will not
تَتَّقُونَtattaqūnayou fear

Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

The Story of `Ad or ThamudAllah tells us that after the people of Nuh, He created another nation. It was said that this was `Ad, because they were the successors of the people of Nuh. Or it was said that they were Thamud, because Allah says:فَأَخَذَتْهُمُ الصَّيْحَةُ بِالْحَقِّ(So, the Sayhah overtook them in truth.
