Verse 104of 200

وَلْتَكُن مِّنكُمْ أُمَّةٌۭ يَدْعُونَ إِلَى ٱلْخَيْرِ وَيَأْمُرُونَ بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِ وَيَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ ٱلْمُنكَرِ ۚ وَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ هُمُ ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَ﴿١٠٤

Translation (Sahih International)

And let there be [arising] from you a nation inviting to [all that is] good, enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong, and those will be the successful.

Word-by-word meaning

وَلْتَكُنwaltakunAnd let there be
مِّنكُمْminkumamong you
أُمَّةٌۭummatun[a] people
يَدْعُونَyadʿūnainviting
إِلَىilāto
ٱلْخَيْرِl-khayrithe good
وَيَأْمُرُونَwayamurūna[and] enjoining
بِٱلْمَعْرُوفِbil-maʿrūfithe right
وَيَنْهَوْنَwayanhawnaand forbidding
عَنِʿanifrom
ٱلْمُنكَرِ ۚl-munkarithe wrong
وَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَwa-ulāikaand those
هُمُhumuthey
ٱلْمُفْلِحُونَl-muf'liḥūna(are) the successful ones

Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

The Command to Establish the Invitation to AllahAllah said,وَلْتَكُن مِّنْكُمْ أُمَّةٌ(Let there arise out of you a group of people)that calls to righteousness, enjoins all that is good and forbids evil in the manner Allah commanded,وَأُوْلَـئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ(And it is they who are the successful.)Ad-Dahhak said, "They are a special group of the Companions and a special group of those after them, that is those who perform Jihad and the scholars.
