An-Nisa (The Women)

Verse 105of 176

إِنَّآ أَنزَلْنَآ إِلَيْكَ ٱلْكِتَٰبَ بِٱلْحَقِّ لِتَحْكُمَ بَيْنَ ٱلنَّاسِ بِمَآ أَرَىٰكَ ٱللَّهُ ۚ وَلَا تَكُن لِّلْخَآئِنِينَ خَصِيمًۭا﴿١٠٥

Translation (Sahih International)

Indeed, We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], the Book in truth so you may judge between the people by that which Allah has shown you. And do not be for the deceitful an advocate.

Word-by-word meaning

إِنَّآinnāIndeed
أَنزَلْنَآanzalnāWe (have) sent down
إِلَيْكَilaykato you
ٱلْكِتَـٰبَl-kitābathe Book
بِٱلْحَقِّbil-ḥaqiwith the truth
لِتَحْكُمَlitaḥkumaso that you may judge
بَيْنَbaynabetween
ٱلنَّاسِl-nāsithe people
بِمَآbimāwith what
أَرَىٰكَarākahas shown you
ٱللَّهُ ۚl-lahuAllah
وَلَاwalāAnd (do) not
تَكُنtakunbe
لِّلْخَآئِنِينَlil'khāinīnafor the deceitful
خَصِيمًۭاkhaṣīmana pleader

Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

The Necessity of Referring to What Allah has Revealed for JudgementAllah says to His Messenger, Muhammad ﷺ,إِنَّآ أَنزَلْنَا إِلَيْكَ الْكِتَـبَ بِالْحَقِّ(Surely, We have sent down to you the Book in truth) meaning, it truly came from Allah and its narrations and commandments are true.
