An-Nisa (The Women)

Verse 126of 176

وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِى ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَمَا فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ وَكَانَ ٱللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ مُّحِيطًۭا﴿١٢٦

Translation (Sahih International)

And to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And ever is Allah, of all things, encompassing.

Word-by-word meaning

وَلِلَّهِwalillahiAnd for Allah
مَا(is) what
فِى(is) in
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwātithe heavens
وَمَاwamāand what
فِى(is) in
ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚl-arḍithe earth
وَكَانَwakānaand is
ٱللَّهُl-lahuAllah
بِكُلِّbikulliof every
شَىْءٍۢshayinthing
مُّحِيطًۭاmuḥīṭanAll-Encompassing

Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

Success is Only Achieved by Performing Righteous Deeds, not Wishful ThinkingQatadah said, "We were told that the Muslims and the People of the Scriptures mentioned their own virtues to each other. People of the Scriptures said, `Our Prophet came before your Prophet and our Book before your Book. Therefore, we should have more right to Allah than you have.' Muslims said, `Rather, we have more right to Allah than you, our Prophet is the Final Prophet and our Book supersedes all the Books before it.
