An-Nisa (The Women)

Verse 146of 176

إِلَّا ٱلَّذِينَ تَابُوا۟ وَأَصْلَحُوا۟ وَٱعْتَصَمُوا۟ بِٱللَّهِ وَأَخْلَصُوا۟ دِينَهُمْ لِلَّهِ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ مَعَ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۖ وَسَوْفَ يُؤْتِ ٱللَّهُ ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ أَجْرًا عَظِيمًۭا﴿١٤٦﴾

Translation (Sahih International)

Except for those who repent, correct themselves, hold fast to Allah, and are sincere in their religion for Allah, for those will be with the believers. And Allah is going to give the believers a great reward.

إِلَّاillāExcept

ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَ ۖl-mu'minīnathe believers
وَسَوْفَwasawfaAnd soon
يُؤْتِyu'tiwill be given
ٱللَّهُl-lahu(by) Allah
ٱلْمُؤْمِنِينَl-mu'minīnathe believers
أَجْرًاajrana reward
عَظِيمًۭاʿaẓīmangreat

Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

The Prohibition of Wilayah with the DisbelieversAllah forbids His believing servants from taking the disbelievers as friends instead of the believers. This includes being friends and associates of the disbelievers, advising them, being intimate with them and exposing the secrets of the believers to them.
