Ar-Ra'd (The Thunder)

Verse 1of 43

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ الٓمٓر ۚ تِلْكَ ءَايَٰتُ ٱلْكِتَٰبِ ۗ وَٱلَّذِىٓ أُنزِلَ إِلَيْكَ مِن رَّبِّكَ ٱلْحَقُّ وَلَٰكِنَّ أَكْثَرَ ٱلنَّاسِ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ﴿١

Translation (Sahih International)

Alif, Lam, Meem, Ra. These are the verses of the Book; and what has been revealed to you from your Lord is the truth, but most of the people do not believe.

الٓمٓر ۚalif-lam-meem-raAlif Laam Mim Ra
تِلْكَtil'kaThese
ءَايَـٰتُāyātu(are) the Verses
ٱلْكِتَـٰبِ ۗl-kitābi(of) the Book
وَٱلَّذِىٓwa-alladhīAnd that which
أُنزِلَunzilahas been revealed
إِلَيْكَilaykato you
مِنminfrom
رَّبِّكَrabbikayour Lord
ٱلْحَقُّl-ḥaqu(is) the truth
وَلَـٰكِنَّwalākinnabut
أَكْثَرَaktharamost
ٱلنَّاسِl-nāsi(of) the mankind
لَا(do) not
يُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnabelieve

Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

Ar-Rad was revealed in Makkahبِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـنِ الرَّحِيمِ In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most MercifulThe Qur'an is Allah's Kalam (Speech)We talked before, in the beginning of Surat Al-Baqarah (chapter 2) about the meaning of the letters that appear in the beginnings of some chapters in the Qur'an.
