Ar-Rahman (The Beneficent)
Verse 58of 78
كَأَنَّهُنَّ ٱلْيَاقُوتُ وَٱلْمَرْجَانُ﴿٥٨﴾
Translation (Sahih International)
As if they were rubies and coral.
Word-by-word meaning
كَأَنَّهُنَّka-annahunnaAs if they were
ٱلْيَاقُوتُl-yāqūturubies
وَٱلْمَرْجَانُwal-marjānuand coral
Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)
مُتَّكِئِينَ(Reclining), in reference to the residents of Paradise, who will recline or sit cross-legged;عَلَى فُرُشٍ بَطَآئِنُهَا مِنْ إِسْتَبْرَقٍ(upon the couches lined with Istabraq,) which is thick silk brocade, according to `Ikrimah, Ad-Dahhak and Qatadah. Abu `Imran Al-Jawni said, "It is thick silk embroidered with gold." In this way, the honor of the outside is alluded to by mentioning the honor of the inside.
