As-Saffat (Those Who Set The Ranks)

Verse 113of 182

وَبَٰرَكْنَا عَلَيْهِ وَعَلَىٰٓ إِسْحَٰقَ ۚ وَمِن ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَا مُحْسِنٌۭ وَظَالِمٌۭ لِّنَفْسِهِۦ مُبِينٌۭ﴿١١٣

Translation (Sahih International)

And We blessed him and Isaac. But among their descendants is the doer of good and the clearly unjust to himself.

Word-by-word meaning

وَبَـٰرَكْنَاwabāraknāAnd We blessed
عَلَيْهِʿalayhihim
وَعَلَىٰٓwaʿalāand [on]
إِسْحَـٰقَ ۚis'ḥāqaIsaac
وَمِنwaminAnd of
ذُرِّيَّتِهِمَاdhurriyyatihimātheir offspring
مُحْسِنٌۭmuḥ'sinun(are) good-doers
وَظَالِمٌۭwaẓālimunand unjust
لِّنَفْسِهِۦlinafsihito himself
مُبِينٌۭmubīnunclear

Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

Ibrahim's Emigration, the Test of the Sacrifice of Isma`il, and how Allah blessed HimAllah tells us that after He helped His close friend Ibrahim, peace be upon him, against his people, and after Ibrahim gave up hoping that they would ever believe despite all the mighty signs that they had witnessed, he emigrated away from them, and said:وَقَالَ إِنِّى ذَاهِبٌ إِلَى رَبِّى سَيَهْدِينِ - رَبِّ هَبْ لِى مِنَ الصَّـلِحِينِ(Verily, I am going to my Lord.
