Az-Zukhruf (The Ornaments of Gold)

Verse 77of 89

وَنَادَوْا۟ يَٰمَٰلِكُ لِيَقْضِ عَلَيْنَا رَبُّكَ ۖ قَالَ إِنَّكُم مَّٰكِثُونَ﴿٧٧

Translation (Sahih International)

And they will call, "O Malik, let your Lord put an end to us!" He will say, "Indeed, you will remain."

Word-by-word meaning

وَنَادَوْا۟wanādawAnd they will call
يَـٰمَـٰلِكُyāmālikuO Malik
لِيَقْضِliyaqḍiLet put an end
عَلَيْنَاʿalaynāto us
رَبُّكَ ۖrabbukayour Lord
قَالَqālaHe (will) say
إِنَّكُمinnakumIndeed, you
مَّـٰكِثُونَmākithūna(will) remain

Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

The Punishment of the DoomedThe description of the state of the blessed is followed by a description of the state of the doomed.إِنَّ الْمُجْرِمِينَ فِى عَذَابِ جَهَنَّمَ خَـلِدُونَ لاَ يُفَتَّرُ عَنْهُمْ(Verily, the criminals will be in the torment of Hell to abide therein forever. It will not be lightened for them,) meaning, not even for one moment.
