Verse 19of 34

وَٱقْصِدْ فِى مَشْيِكَ وَٱغْضُضْ مِن صَوْتِكَ ۚ إِنَّ أَنكَرَ ٱلْأَصْوَٰتِ لَصَوْتُ ٱلْحَمِيرِ﴿١٩

Translation (Sahih International)

And be moderate in your pace and lower your voice; indeed, the most disagreeable of sounds is the voice of donkeys."

Word-by-word meaning

وَٱقْصِدْwa-iq'ṣidAnd be moderate
فِىin
مَشْيِكَmashyikayour pace
وَٱغْضُضْwa-ugh'ḍuḍand lower
مِنmin[of]
صَوْتِكَ ۚṣawtikayour voice
إِنَّinnaIndeed
أَنكَرَankara(the) harshest
ٱلْأَصْوَٰتِl-aṣwāti(of all) sounds
لَصَوْتُlaṣawtu(is) surely (the) voice
ٱلْحَمِيرِl-ḥamīri(of) the donkeys

Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

This is useful advice which Allah tells us Luqman gave, so that people may follow it and take it as"See the full heading "This is useful advice which Allah tells us Luqman gave, so thatpeople may follow it and take it as a good exampleHe said:يبُنَىَّ إِنَّهَآ إِن تَكُ مِثْقَالَ حَبَّةٍ مِّنْ خَرْدَلٍ(O my son! If it be (anything) equal to the weight of a grain of mustard seed, ) means, if a wrong action or a sin be equal to the size of a grain of mustard seed.
