Taha (Ta-Ha)

Verse 111of 135

۞ وَعَنَتِ ٱلْوُجُوهُ لِلْحَىِّ ٱلْقَيُّومِ ۖ وَقَدْ خَابَ مَنْ حَمَلَ ظُلْمًۭا﴿١١١

Translation (Sahih International)

And [all] faces will be humbled before the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. And he will have failed who carries injustice.

Word-by-word meaning

۞ وَعَنَتِwaʿanatiAnd (will be) humbled
ٱلْوُجُوهُl-wujūhuthe faces
لِلْحَىِّlil'ḥayyibefore the Ever-Living
ٱلْقَيُّومِ ۖl-qayūmithe Self-Subsisting
وَقَدْwaqadAnd verily
خَابَkhābawill have failed
مَنْman(he) who
حَمَلَḥamalacarried
ظُلْمًۭاẓul'manwrongdoing

Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

The Intercession and the RecompenseAllah, the Exalted, says, يَوْمَئِذٍ(On that day) the Day of Resurrection, لاَّ تَنفَعُ الشَّفَاعَةُ(no intercession shall avail.) meaning with Him (Allah). إِلاَّ مَنْ أَذِنَ لَهُ الرَّحْمَـنُ وَرَضِىَ لَهُ قَوْلاً(except the one for whom the Most Gracious has given permission and whose word is acceptable to Him.
