أيوب

Ayyub (Job)

The Patient Servant

Tested with loss of health, wealth, and family, Ayyub's patience became the gold standard of endurance (Surah Al-Anbiya 21:83-84).

A Righteous Man Tested with Severe Loss

Ayyub (peace be upon him) was a wealthy, healthy man blessed with family and property. Allah tested him by taking away his health, his wealth, and his children. Despite losing everything, Ayyub did not complain against Allah or question His decree. His test was not a punishment — it was a trial of a soul Allah already knew was strong enough to bear it.

The Prayer That Moved Allah's Mercy

After years of suffering, Ayyub turned to Allah with the most humble of supplications: 'Indeed, adversity has touched me, and You are the Most Merciful of the merciful' (Surah Al-Anbiya 21:83). He did not demand relief or question why he was suffering. He simply stated his condition and affirmed Allah's attribute of mercy. This du'a is a model for every believer in hardship — acknowledging pain while trusting in Allah's compassion.

Allah's Response — Healing and Restoration

Allah responded immediately: 'Strike the ground with your foot — this is a spring for a cool bath and drink' (Surah Sad 38:42). Ayyub was healed. Allah then restored his family, doubling what he had before, as a mercy from Him and a reminder for those who worship (Surah Sad 38:43). His patience did not go unrewarded — it was honoured in this life and will be honoured in the next.

Surah Sad 38:42-43

Praised by Allah — An Excellent Servant

Allah Himself praised Ayyub: 'Indeed, We found him patient — an excellent servant. Indeed, he was one who repeatedly turned back to Allah' (Surah Sad 38:44). This is the highest commendation a human being can receive. The title 'abd' (servant) is one of honour in Islam, and Ayyub exemplified it through unwavering devotion in the most extreme circumstances a person can face.

3

Tests from Allah are not signs of His displeasure; they can be signs of His trust in your faith.
