Verse 128of 165

وَيَوْمَ يَحْشُرُهُمْ جَمِيعًۭا يَٰمَعْشَرَ ٱلْجِنِّ قَدِ ٱسْتَكْثَرْتُم مِّنَ ٱلْإِنسِ ۖ وَقَالَ أَوْلِيَآؤُهُم مِّنَ ٱلْإِنسِ رَبَّنَا ٱسْتَمْتَعَ بَعْضُنَا بِبَعْضٍۢ وَبَلَغْنَآ أَجَلَنَا ٱلَّذِىٓ أَجَّلْتَ لَنَا ۚ قَالَ ٱلنَّارُ مَثْوَىٰكُمْ خَٰلِدِينَ فِيهَآ إِلَّا مَا شَآءَ ٱللَّهُ ۗ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ حَكِيمٌ عَلِيمٌۭ﴿١٢٨

Translation (Sahih International)

And [mention, O Muhammad], the Day when He will gather them together [and say], "O company of jinn, you have [misled] many of mankind." And their allies among mankind will say, "Our Lord, some of us made use of others, and we have [now] reached our term, which you appointed for us." He will say, "The Fire is your residence, wherein you will abide eternally, except for what Allah wills. Indeed, your Lord is Wise and Knowing."

Word-by-word meaning

وَيَوْمَwayawmaAnd (the) Day
يَحْشُرُهُمْyaḥshuruhumHe will gather them
جَمِيعًۭاjamīʿanall
يَـٰمَعْشَرَyāmaʿshara(and will say), "O assembly
ٱلْجِنِّl-jini(of) [the] jinn
قَدِqadiCertainly
ٱسْتَكْثَرْتُمis'takthartumyou have (misled) many
مِّنَminaof
ٱلْإِنسِ ۖl-insithe mankind
وَقَالَwaqālaAnd will say
أَوْلِيَآؤُهُمawliyāuhumtheir friends
مِّنَminaamong
ٱلْإِنسِl-insithe men
رَبَّنَاrabbanāOur Lord
ٱسْتَمْتَعَis'tamtaʿaprofited
بَعْضُنَاbaʿḍunāsome of us
بِبَعْضٍۢbibaʿḍinby others
وَبَلَغْنَآwabalaghnāand we have reached
أَجَلَنَاajalanāour term
ٱلَّذِىٓalladhīwhich
أَجَّلْتَajjaltaYou appointed
لَنَا ۚlanāfor us
قَالَqālaHe will say
ٱلنَّارُl-nāruThe Fire
مَثْوَىٰكُمْmathwākum(is) your abode
خَـٰلِدِينَkhālidīnawill abide forever
فِيهَآfīhāin it
إِلَّاillāexcept
مَا(for) what
شَآءَshāawills
ٱللَّهُ ۗl-lahuAllah
إِنَّinnaIndeed
رَبَّكَrabbakayour Lord
حَكِيمٌḥakīmun(is) All-Wise
عَلِيمٌۭʿalīmunAll-Knowing

Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

وَيَوْمَ يَحْشُرُهُمْ جَمِيعاً(on the Day when He will gather them (all) together.) gather the Jinns and their loyal supporters from mankind who used to worship them in this life, seek refuge with them, obey them and inspire each other with adorned, deceitful speech.
