Al-An'am (The Cattle)

Verse 75of 165

وَكَذَٰلِكَ نُرِىٓ إِبْرَٰهِيمَ مَلَكُوتَ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَلِيَكُونَ مِنَ ٱلْمُوقِنِينَ﴿٧٥

Translation (Sahih International)

And thus did We show Abraham the realm of the heavens and the earth that he would be among the certain [in faith]

Word-by-word meaning

وَكَذَٰلِكَwakadhālikaAnd thus
نُرِىٓnurīWe show(ed)
إِبْرَٰهِيمَib'rāhīmaIbrahim
مَلَكُوتَmalakūtathe kingdom
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earth
وَلِيَكُونَwaliyakūnaso that he would be
مِنَminaamong
ٱلْمُوقِنِينَl-mūqinīnathe ones who are certain

Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

Ibrahim Advises his FatherIbrahim advised, discouraged and forbade his father from worshipping idols, just as Allah stated, وَإِذْ قَالَ إِبْرَهِيمُ لاًّبِيهِ ءَازَرَ أَتَتَّخِذُ أَصْنَاماً ءَالِهَةً(And (remember) when Ibrahim said to his father Azar: "Do you take idols as gods") meaning, do you worship an idol instead of Allah إِنِّى أَرَاكَ وَقَوْمَكَ(Verily, I see you and your people...
