Verse 153of 206

وَٱلَّذِينَ عَمِلُوا۟ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِ ثُمَّ تَابُوا۟ مِنۢ بَعْدِهَا وَءَامَنُوٓا۟ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ مِنۢ بَعْدِهَا لَغَفُورٌۭ رَّحِيمٌۭ﴿١٥٣

Translation (Sahih International)

But those who committed misdeeds and then repented after them and believed - indeed your Lord, thereafter, is Forgiving and Merciful.

Word-by-word meaning

وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaAnd those who

ٱلسَّيِّـَٔاتِl-sayiātithe evil deeds

تَابُوا۟tābūrepented

بَعْدِهَاbaʿdihāafter that
وَءَامَنُوٓا۟waāmanūand believed
إِنَّinnaindeed
رَبَّكَrabbakayour Lord
مِنۢminfrom
بَعْدِهَاbaʿdihāafter that
لَغَفُورٌۭlaghafūrun(is) surely Oft-Forgiving
رَّحِيمٌۭraḥīmunMost Merciful

Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

فَتُوبُواْ إِلَى بَارِئِكُمْ فَاقْتُلُواْ أَنفُسَكُمْ ذَلِكُمْ خَيْرٌ لَّكُمْ عِندَ بَارِئِكُمْ فَتَابَ عَلَيْكُمْ إِنَّهُ هُوَ التَّوَّابُ الرَّحِيمُ(So turn in repentance to your Creator and kill yourselves (the guilty), that will be better for you before your Creator." Then He accepted your repentance. Truly, He is the One Who accepts repentance, the Most Merciful.
