Al-Baqarah (The Cow)
Verse 153of 286
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱسْتَعِينُوا۟ بِٱلصَّبْرِ وَٱلصَّلَوٰةِ ۚ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ مَعَ ٱلصَّٰبِرِينَ﴿١٥٣﴾
Translation (Sahih International)
O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient.
Word-by-word meaning
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَاyāayyuhāO you
ٱلَّذِينَalladhīnawho
ءَامَنُوا۟āmanūbelieve[d]
ٱسْتَعِينُوا۟is'taʿīnūSeek help
بِٱلصَّبْرِbil-ṣabrithrough patience
وَٱلصَّلَوٰةِ ۚwal-ṣalatiand the prayer
إِنَّinnaIndeed
ٱللَّهَl-lahaAllah
مَعَmaʿa(is) with
ٱلصَّـٰبِرِينَl-ṣābirīnathe patient ones
Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)
The Virtue of Patience and PrayerAfter Allah commanded that He be appreciated, He ordained patience and prayer. It is a fact that the servant is either enjoying a bounty that he should be thankful for, or suffering a calamity that he should meet with patience.
