Al-Furqan (The Criterion)

Verse 2of 77

ٱلَّذِى لَهُۥ مُلْكُ ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلْأَرْضِ وَلَمْ يَتَّخِذْ وَلَدًۭا وَلَمْ يَكُن لَّهُۥ شَرِيكٌۭ فِى ٱلْمُلْكِ وَخَلَقَ كُلَّ شَىْءٍۢ فَقَدَّرَهُۥ تَقْدِيرًۭا﴿٢

Translation (Sahih International)

He to whom belongs the dominion of the heavens and the earth and who has not taken a son and has not had a partner in dominion and has created each thing and determined it with [precise] determination.

Word-by-word meaning

ٱلَّذِىalladhīThe One Who
لَهُۥlahuto Him (belongs)
مُلْكُmul'ku(the) dominion
ٱلسَّمَـٰوَٰتِl-samāwāti(of) the heavens
وَٱلْأَرْضِwal-arḍiand the earth
وَلَمْwalamand not
يَتَّخِذْyattakhidhHe has taken
وَلَدًۭاwaladana son
وَلَمْwalamand not
يَكُنyakunHe has
لَّهُۥlahufor Him
شَرِيكٌۭsharīkuna partner
فِىin
ٱلْمُلْكِl-mul'kithe dominion
وَخَلَقَwakhalaqaand He (has) created
كُلَّkullaevery
شَىْءٍۢshayinthing
فَقَدَّرَهُۥfaqaddarahuand determined it
تَقْدِيرًۭاtaqdīran(with) determination

Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

Which was revealed in Makkahبِسْمِ اللَّهِ الرَّحْمَـنِ الرَّحِيمِIn the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.Blessed be AllahHere Allah praises Himself for the Noble Qur'an He has revealed to His noble Messenger .
