Al-Isra (The Night Journey)

Verse 1of 111

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ سُبْحَٰنَ ٱلَّذِىٓ أَسْرَىٰ بِعَبْدِهِۦ لَيْلًۭا مِّنَ ٱلْمَسْجِدِ ٱلْحَرَامِ إِلَى ٱلْمَسْجِدِ ٱلْأَقْصَا ٱلَّذِى بَٰرَكْنَا حَوْلَهُۥ لِنُرِيَهُۥ مِنْ ءَايَٰتِنَآ ۚ إِنَّهُۥ هُوَ ٱلسَّمِيعُ ٱلْبَصِيرُ﴿١

Translation (Sahih International)

Exalted is He who took His Servant by night from al-Masjid al-Haram to al-Masjid al-Aqsa, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing.

حَوْلَهُۥḥawlahuits surroundings
لِنُرِيَهُۥlinuriyahuthat We may show him
مِنْminof
ءَايَـٰتِنَآ ۚāyātināOur Signs
إِنَّهُۥinnahuIndeed He
هُوَhuwaHe
ٱلسَّمِيعُl-samīʿu(is) the All-Hearer
ٱلْبَصِيرُl-baṣīruthe All-Seer

Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

Which was revealed in MakkahThe Virtues of Surat Al-Isra'Imam Al-Hafiz Abu `Abdullah Muhammad bin Isma`il Al-Bukhari recorded that Ibn Mas`ud said concerning Surah Bani Isra`il (i.e., Surat Al-Isra'), Al-Kahf and Maryam: "They are among the earliest and most beautiful Surahs and they are my treasure.
