Verse 2of 30

ٱلَّذِى خَلَقَ ٱلْمَوْتَ وَٱلْحَيَوٰةَ لِيَبْلُوَكُمْ أَيُّكُمْ أَحْسَنُ عَمَلًۭا ۚ وَهُوَ ٱلْعَزِيزُ ٱلْغَفُورُ﴿٢

Translation (Sahih International)

[He] who created death and life to test you [as to] which of you is best in deed - and He is the Exalted in Might, the Forgiving -

ٱلْمَوْتَl-mawtadeath
وَٱلْحَيَوٰةَwal-ḥayataand life
لِيَبْلُوَكُمْliyabluwakumthat He may test you

عَمَلًۭا ۚʿamalan(in) deed
وَهُوَwahuwaAnd He
ٱلْعَزِيزُl-ʿazīzu(is) the All-Mighty
ٱلْغَفُورُl-ghafūruthe Oft-Forgiving

Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

Which was revealed in MakkahThe Virtues of Surat Al-MulkImam Ahmad recorded from Abu Hurayrah that Allah's Messenger ﷺ said,«إِنَّ سُورَةً فِي الْقُرْآنِ ثَلَاثِينَ آيَةً شَفَعَتْ لِصَاحِبِهَا حَتْى غُفِرَ لَهُ:تَبَارَكَ الَّذِى بِيَدِهِ الْمُلْكُ»(Verily, there is a chapter in the Qur'an which contains thirty Ayat that will intercede on behalf of its reciter until he is forgiven. (It is): (Blessed be He in Whose Hand is the dominion.
