Al-Mulk (The Sovereignty)

Verse 1of 30

بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ تَبَٰرَكَ ٱلَّذِى بِيَدِهِ ٱلْمُلْكُ وَهُوَ عَلَىٰ كُلِّ شَىْءٍۢ قَدِيرٌ﴿١

Translation (Sahih International)

Blessed is He in whose hand is dominion, and He is over all things competent -

Word-by-word meaning

تَبَـٰرَكَtabārakaBlessed is
ٱلَّذِىalladhīHe
بِيَدِهِbiyadihiin Whose Hand
ٱلْمُلْكُl-mul'ku(is) the Dominion
وَهُوَwahuwaand He
عَلَىٰʿalā(is) over
كُلِّkullievery
شَىْءٍۢshayinthing
قَدِيرٌqadīrunAll-Powerful

Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

Which was revealed in MakkahThe Virtues of Surat Al-MulkImam Ahmad recorded from Abu Hurayrah that Allah's Messenger ﷺ said,«إِنَّ سُورَةً فِي الْقُرْآنِ ثَلَاثِينَ آيَةً شَفَعَتْ لِصَاحِبِهَا حَتْى غُفِرَ لَهُ:تَبَارَكَ الَّذِى بِيَدِهِ الْمُلْكُ»(Verily, there is a chapter in the Qur'an which contains thirty Ayat that will intercede on behalf of its reciter until he is forgiven. (It is): (Blessed be He in Whose Hand is the dominion.
