Al-Mulk (The Sovereignty)
Verse 22of 30
أَفَمَن يَمْشِى مُكِبًّا عَلَىٰ وَجْهِهِۦٓ أَهْدَىٰٓ أَمَّن يَمْشِى سَوِيًّا عَلَىٰ صِرَٰطٍۢ مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢ﴿٢٢﴾
Translation (Sahih International)
Then is one who walks fallen on his face better guided or one who walks erect on a straight path?
Word-by-word meaning
أَفَمَنafamanThen is he who
يَمْشِىyamshīwalks
مُكِبًّاmukibbanfallen
عَلَىٰʿalāon
وَجْهِهِۦٓwajhihihis face
أَهْدَىٰٓahdābetter guided
أَمَّنammanor (he) who
يَمْشِىyamshīwalks
سَوِيًّاsawiyyanupright
عَلَىٰʿalāon
صِرَٰطٍۢṣirāṭin(the) Path
مُّسْتَقِيمٍۢmus'taqīminStraight
Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)
No One will help You and No One can grant Sustenance except for AllahAllah addresses the idolators who worship others besides Him, seeking help and sustenance from them. Allah rebukes them for what they believe, and He informs them that they will not attain that which they hope for.
