An-Nisa (The Women)

Verse 16of 176

وَٱلَّذَانِ يَأْتِيَٰنِهَا مِنكُمْ فَـَٔاذُوهُمَا ۖ فَإِن تَابَا وَأَصْلَحَا فَأَعْرِضُوا۟ عَنْهُمَآ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ كَانَ تَوَّابًۭا رَّحِيمًا﴿١٦

Translation (Sahih International)

And the two who commit it among you, dishonor them both. But if they repent and correct themselves, leave them alone. Indeed, Allah is ever Accepting of repentance and Merciful.

Word-by-word meaning

وَٱلَّذَانِwa-alladhāniAnd the two who
يَأْتِيَـٰنِهَاyatiyānihācommit it

فَـَٔاذُوهُمَا ۖfaādhūhumāthen punish both of them

Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

The Adulteress is Confined in her House; A Command Later AbrogatedAt the begining of Islam, the ruling was that if a woman commits adultery as stipulated by sufficient proof, she was confined to her home, without leave, until she died.
