Verse 97of 176

إِنَّ ٱلَّذِينَ تَوَفَّىٰهُمُ ٱلْمَلَٰٓئِكَةُ ظَالِمِىٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ قَالُوا۟ فِيمَ كُنتُمْ ۖ قَالُوا۟ كُنَّا مُسْتَضْعَفِينَ فِى ٱلْأَرْضِ ۚ قَالُوٓا۟ أَلَمْ تَكُنْ أَرْضُ ٱللَّهِ وَٰسِعَةًۭ فَتُهَاجِرُوا۟ فِيهَا ۚ فَأُو۟لَٰٓئِكَ مَأْوَىٰهُمْ جَهَنَّمُ ۖ وَسَآءَتْ مَصِيرًا﴿٩٧

Translation (Sahih International)

Indeed, those whom the angels take [in death] while wronging themselves - [the angels] will say, "In what [condition] were you?" They will say, "We were oppressed in the land." The angels will say, "Was not the earth of Allah spacious [enough] for you to emigrate therein?" For those, their refuge is Hell - and evil it is as a destination.

ٱللَّهِl-lahi(of) Allah
وَٰسِعَةًۭwāsiʿatanspacious (enough)
فَتُهَاجِرُوا۟fatuhājirūso that you (could) emigrate
فِيهَا ۚfīhāin it
فَأُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَfa-ulāikaThen those
مَأْوَىٰهُمْmawāhum(will have) their abode
جَهَنَّمُ ۖjahannamu(in) Hell
وَسَآءَتْwasāatand it is an evil
مَصِيرًاmaṣīrandestination

The Prohibition of Residing Among the Disbelievers While Able to EmigrateAl-Bukhari recorded that Muhammad bin `Abdur-Rahman, Abu Al-Aswad, said, "The people of Al-Madinah were forced to prepare an army (to fight against the people of Ash-Sham during the Khilafah of Abdullah bin Az-Zubayir at Makkah), and I was enlisted in it.
