Verse 12of 52

وَمَا لَنَآ أَلَّا نَتَوَكَّلَ عَلَى ٱللَّهِ وَقَدْ هَدَىٰنَا سُبُلَنَا ۚ وَلَنَصْبِرَنَّ عَلَىٰ مَآ ءَاذَيْتُمُونَا ۚ وَعَلَى ٱللَّهِ فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِ ٱلْمُتَوَكِّلُونَ﴿١٢

Translation (Sahih International)

And why should we not rely upon Allah while He has guided us to our [good] ways. And we will surely be patient against whatever harm you should cause us. And upon Allah let those who would rely [indeed] rely."

Word-by-word meaning

وَمَاwamāAnd what
لَنَآlanā(is) for us
أَلَّاallāthat not
نَتَوَكَّلَnatawakkalawe put our trust
عَلَىʿalāupon
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
وَقَدْwaqadwhile certainly
هَدَىٰنَاhadānāHe has guided us
سُبُلَنَا ۚsubulanāto our ways
وَلَنَصْبِرَنَّwalanaṣbirannaAnd surely we will bear with patience
عَلَىٰʿalāon
مَآwhat
ءَاذَيْتُمُونَا ۚādhaytumūnāharm you may cause us
وَعَلَىwaʿalāAnd upon
ٱللَّهِl-lahiAllah
فَلْيَتَوَكَّلِfalyatawakkaliso let put (their) trust
ٱلْمُتَوَكِّلُونَl-mutawakilūnathe ones who put (their) trust

Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

The Argument between the Prophets and the DisbelieversAllah narrates to us the arguments that ensued between the disbelievers and their Messengers. When their nations doubted the Message of worshipping Allah alone without partners, the Messengers said,أَفِى اللَّهِ شَكٌّ((What!) Can there be a doubt about Allah...
