Ya-Sin (Ya-Sin)
Verse 67of 83
وَلَوْ نَشَآءُ لَمَسَخْنَٰهُمْ عَلَىٰ مَكَانَتِهِمْ فَمَا ٱسْتَطَٰعُوا۟ مُضِيًّۭا وَلَا يَرْجِعُونَ﴿٦٧﴾
Translation (Sahih International)
And if We willed, We could have deformed them, [paralyzing them] in their places so they would not be able to proceed, nor could they return.
Word-by-word meaning
وَلَوْwalawAnd if
نَشَآءُnashāuWe willed
لَمَسَخْنَـٰهُمْlamasakhnāhumsurely, We (would have) transformed them
عَلَىٰʿalāin
مَكَانَتِهِمْmakānatihimtheir places
فَمَاfamāthen not
ٱسْتَطَـٰعُوا۟is'taṭāʿūthey would have been able
مُضِيًّۭاmuḍiyyanto proceed
وَلَاwalāand not
يَرْجِعُونَyarjiʿūnareturn
Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)
هَـذِهِ جَهَنَّمُ الَّتِى كُنتُمْ تُوعَدُونَ (This is Hell which you were promised!) meaning, `this is what the Messengers warned you about, and you did not believe them.'اصْلَوْهَا الْيَوْمَ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَكْفُرُونَ (Burn (enter) therein this Day, for that you used to disbelieve).
