Ya-Sin (Ya-Sin)
Verse 66of 83
وَلَوْ نَشَآءُ لَطَمَسْنَا عَلَىٰٓ أَعْيُنِهِمْ فَٱسْتَبَقُوا۟ ٱلصِّرَٰطَ فَأَنَّىٰ يُبْصِرُونَ﴿٦٦﴾
Translation (Sahih International)
And if We willed, We could have obliterated their eyes, and they would race to [find] the path, and how could they see?
Word-by-word meaning
وَلَوْwalawAnd if
نَشَآءُnashāuWe willed
لَطَمَسْنَاlaṭamasnāWe (would have) surely obliterated
عَلَىٰٓʿalā[over]
أَعْيُنِهِمْaʿyunihimtheir eyes
فَٱسْتَبَقُوا۟fa-is'tabaqūthen they (would) race
ٱلصِّرَٰطَl-ṣirāṭa(to find) the path
فَأَنَّىٰfa-annāthen how
يُبْصِرُونَyub'ṣirūna(could) they see
Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)
هَـذِهِ جَهَنَّمُ الَّتِى كُنتُمْ تُوعَدُونَ (This is Hell which you were promised!) meaning, `this is what the Messengers warned you about, and you did not believe them.'اصْلَوْهَا الْيَوْمَ بِمَا كُنتُمْ تَكْفُرُونَ (Burn (enter) therein this Day, for that you used to disbelieve).
