Upon Affliction

Distress & Hardship · Sahih Muslim 918, Quran 2:156

Arabic

إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ اللَّهُمَّ أْجُرْنِي فِي مُصِيبَتِي وَأَخْلِفْ لِي خَيْرًا مِنْهَا

Transliteration

Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un. Allahumma-jurni fi musibati wa akhlif li khayran minha.

Translation

Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Him we shall return. O Allah, reward me in my affliction and replace it for me with something better.

Sahih Muslim 918, Quran 2:156

Umm Salamah reported that the Prophet ﷺ taught her this. After her husband's death, she said it, and Allah replaced him with the Prophet ﷺ himself as her husband.
