Prophet 1 of 25

آدم

Adam

Khalifatullah — Vicegerent of Allah on Earth

The first human being and prophet, created by Allah from clay and appointed as His vicegerent on Earth (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:30).

Referenced in:Surah Al-Baqarah 2:30-39Surah Al-A'raf 7:11-25Surah Al-Hijr 15:26-44Surah Sad 38:71-85

Creation from Clay and the Honour of the Soul

Allah created Adam from clay, shaping him with His own hands and breathing into him from His spirit (Surah Sad 38:71-72). This act of direct creation set Adam apart from all other beings. The angels were then commanded to prostrate before him, and all obeyed except Iblis, who refused out of arrogance, claiming superiority because he was made from fire while Adam was made from clay (Surah Al-A'raf 7:11-12).

Surah Sad 38:71-72

The Gift of Knowledge — Names Taught by Allah

Allah taught Adam the names of all things, a knowledge not given to the angels (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:31). When the angels could not name what Adam could, Allah demonstrated that human beings were granted a unique capacity for knowledge and understanding. This gift of language and comprehension became the foundation for humanity's role as caretakers of the Earth.

Surah Al-Baqarah 2:31-33

Life in Jannah and the Forbidden Tree

Adam and his wife Hawwa were placed in Jannah and given freedom to eat from wherever they wished, with one restriction: they were told not to approach a specific tree (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:35). Shaytan whispered to them and deceived them, causing them to eat from the tree. Their mistake was not one of rebellion but of human weakness. When they realised what they had done, they turned to Allah immediately in repentance.

Surah Al-A'raf 7:19-22

The First Repentance — A Model for All Humanity

Adam and Hawwa called out to Allah with words He Himself taught them: 'Our Lord, we have wronged ourselves, and if You do not forgive us and have mercy upon us, we will surely be among the losers' (Surah Al-A'raf 7:23). Allah accepted their repentance and chose Adam, guiding him (Surah Ta-Ha 20:122). This established repentance (tawbah) as a mercy available to every human being — the door to Allah's forgiveness is never closed.

Surah Al-A'raf 7:23

Descent to Earth and the Ongoing Test

Adam and Hawwa were sent down to Earth, along with the enmity of Iblis, who vowed to mislead humanity from every direction (Surah Al-A'raf 7:16-17). Allah reassured them: guidance would come, and whoever follows it will have nothing to fear (Surah Al-Baqarah 2:38). Life on Earth thus began not as a punishment but as a test — with Allah's guidance always available to those who seek it.

Surah Al-Baqarah 2:38-39

Lessons from Prophet Adam

1

Every human being has inherent dignity — Allah honoured Adam above many of His creation (Surah Al-Isra 17:70).

2

Arrogance is the root of disobedience, as Iblis demonstrated by refusing to prostrate.

3

Mistakes do not define us — sincere repentance (tawbah) can restore our standing with Allah.

4

Knowledge is a divine gift and a responsibility, not merely an advantage.

5

The struggle against Shaytan's whispers is the lifelong test of every human being.
