Verse 156of 206

۞ وَٱكْتُبْ لَنَا فِى هَٰذِهِ ٱلدُّنْيَا حَسَنَةًۭ وَفِى ٱلْءَاخِرَةِ إِنَّا هُدْنَآ إِلَيْكَ ۚ قَالَ عَذَابِىٓ أُصِيبُ بِهِۦ مَنْ أَشَآءُ ۖ وَرَحْمَتِى وَسِعَتْ كُلَّ شَىْءٍۢ ۚ فَسَأَكْتُبُهَا لِلَّذِينَ يَتَّقُونَ وَيُؤْتُونَ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَٱلَّذِينَ هُم بِـَٔايَٰتِنَا يُؤْمِنُونَ﴿١٥٦

Translation (Sahih International)

And decree for us in this world [that which is] good and [also] in the Hereafter; indeed, we have turned back to You." [Allah] said, "My punishment - I afflict with it whom I will, but My mercy encompasses all things." So I will decree it [especially] for those who fear Me and give zakah and those who believe in Our verses -

ٱلدُّنْيَاl-dun'yā[the] world
حَسَنَةًۭḥasanatangood
وَفِىwafīand in
ٱلْـَٔاخِرَةِl-ākhiratithe Hereafter
إِنَّاinnāIndeed, we
هُدْنَآhud'nāwe have turned
إِلَيْكَ ۚilaykato You
قَالَqālaHe said
عَذَابِىٓʿadhābīMy punishment
أُصِيبُuṣībuI afflict
بِهِۦbihiwith it
مَنْmanwhom
أَشَآءُ ۖashāuI will
وَرَحْمَتِىwaraḥmatībut My Mercy
وَسِعَتْwasiʿatencompasses
كُلَّkullaevery
شَىْءٍۢ ۚshayinthing
فَسَأَكْتُبُهَاfasa-aktubuhāSo I will ordain it
لِلَّذِينَlilladhīnafor those who
يَتَّقُونَyattaqūna(are) righteous
وَيُؤْتُونَwayu'tūnaand give
ٱلزَّكَوٰةَl-zakatazakah
وَٱلَّذِينَwa-alladhīnaand those who
هُمhum[they]
بِـَٔايَـٰتِنَاbiāyātināin Our Verses
يُؤْمِنُونَyu'minūnathey believe

Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

Seventy Men from the Children of Israel go for the appointedMeeting Place that Allah designated, Allah later on destroys Them`Ali bin Abi Talhah reported that Ibn `Abbas commented; "Allah commanded Musa to choose seventy men. So he chose them and proceeded with them in order that they supplicate to their Lord.
