Az-Zukhruf (The Ornaments of Gold)
Verse 31of 89
وَقَالُوا۟ لَوْلَا نُزِّلَ هَٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانُ عَلَىٰ رَجُلٍۢ مِّنَ ٱلْقَرْيَتَيْنِ عَظِيمٍ﴿٣١﴾
Translation (Sahih International)
And they said, "Why was this Qur'an not sent down upon a great man from [one of] the two cities?"
Word-by-word meaning
وَقَالُوا۟waqālūAnd they say
لَوْلَاlawlāWhy not
نُزِّلَnuzzilawas sent down
هَـٰذَاhādhāthis
ٱلْقُرْءَانُl-qur'ānuthe Quran
عَلَىٰʿalāto
رَجُلٍۢrajulina man
مِّنَminafrom
ٱلْقَرْيَتَيْنِl-qaryataynithe two towns
عَظِيمٍʿaẓīmingreat
Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)
Ibrahim's Declaration of Tawhid HereAllah tells us about His servant, Messenger and close Friend, the leader of the monotheists and the father of all subsequent Prophets, from whom Quraysh were descended and claimed to have taken their religion.
