Fussilat (Explained in Detail)

Verse 24of 54

فَإِن يَصْبِرُوا۟ فَٱلنَّارُ مَثْوًۭى لَّهُمْ ۖ وَإِن يَسْتَعْتِبُوا۟ فَمَا هُم مِّنَ ٱلْمُعْتَبِينَ﴿٢٤

Translation (Sahih International)

So [even] if they are patient, the Fire is a residence for them; and if they ask to appease [Allah], they will not be of those who are allowed to appease.

Word-by-word meaning

فَإِنfa-inThen if
يَصْبِرُوا۟yaṣbirūthey endure
فَٱلنَّارُfal-nāruthe Fire
مَثْوًۭىmathwan(is) an abode
لَّهُمْ ۖlahumfor them
وَإِنwa-inand if
يَسْتَعْتِبُوا۟yastaʿtibūthey ask for favor
فَمَاfamāthen not
هُمhumthey
مِّنَmina(will be) of
ٱلْمُعْتَبِينَl-muʿ'tabīnathose who receive favor

Commentary (Tafsir Ibn Kathir)

On the Day of Judgement, the Sinners' Limbs will testify against Themوَيَوْمَ يُحْشَرُ أَعْدَآءُ اللَّهِ إِلَى النَّارِ فَهُمْ يُوزَعُونَ(And (remember) the Day that the enemies of Allah will be gathered to the Fire, then they will be driven.) means, remind these idolators of the Day when they will be gathered to the Fire and they will be driven, i.e.
