Faith
قَالَ أَخْبِرْنِي عَنِ الإِسْلاَمِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم الإِسْلاَمُ أَنْ تَشْهَدَ أَنْ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ وَتُقِيمَ الصَّلاَةَ وَتُؤْتِيَ الزَّكَاةَ وَتَصُومَ رَمَضَانَ وَتَحُجَّ الْبَيْتَ إِنِ اسْتَطَعْتَ إِلَيْهِ سَبِيلاً
He said: 'Tell me about Islam.' The Messenger of Allah said: 'Islam is to testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, to establish prayer, to pay Zakat, to fast Ramadan, and to make pilgrimage to the House if you are able to find a way.'
Narrated by Umar ibn Al-Khattab
قَالَ أَخْبِرْنِي عَنِ الإِحْسَانِ قَالَ أَنْ تَعْبُدَ اللَّهَ كَأَنَّكَ تَرَاهُ فَإِنْ لَمْ تَكُنْ تَرَاهُ فَإِنَّهُ يَرَاكَ
He said: 'Tell me about excellence (ihsan).' He replied: 'It is to worship Allah as though you see Him, and though you do not see Him, know that He sees you.'
Narrated by Umar ibn Al-Khattab
مَنْ رَأَى مِنْكُمْ مُنْكَرًا فَلْيُغَيِّرْهُ بِيَدِهِ فَإِنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ فَبِلِسَانِهِ فَإِنْ لَمْ يَسْتَطِعْ فَبِقَلْبِهِ وَذَلِكَ أَضْعَفُ الإِيمَانِ
Whoever among you sees an evil, let him change it with his hand. If he cannot, then with his tongue. If he cannot, then with his heart — and that is the weakest form of faith.
Narrated by Abu Sa'id al-Khudri
لاَ يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ مَنْ كَانَ فِي قَلْبِهِ مِثْقَالُ ذَرَّةٍ مِنْ كِبْرٍ
No one who has the weight of a mustard seed of arrogance in his heart will enter Paradise.
Narrated by Abdullah ibn Mas'ud
الدِّينُ النَّصِيحَةُ قُلْنَا لِمَنْ قَالَ لِلَّهِ وَلِكِتَابِهِ وَلِرَسُولِهِ وَلأَئِمَّةِ الْمُسْلِمِينَ وَعَامَّتِهِمْ
Religion is sincerity. We said: 'To whom?' He said: 'To Allah, to His Book, to His Messenger, to the leaders of the Muslims, and to their common folk.'
Narrated by Tamim al-Dari
الإِيمَانُ بِضْعٌ وَسَبْعُونَ شُعْبَةً فَأَفْضَلُهَا قَوْلُ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَأَدْنَاهَا إِمَاطَةُ الأَذَى عَنِ الطَّرِيقِ
Faith has seventy-odd branches. The highest is to say 'There is no god but Allah,' and the lowest is to remove something harmful from the road.
Narrated by Abu Hurairah
لاَ يَدْخُلُ الْجَنَّةَ قَاطِعُ رَحِمٍ
The one who severs family ties will not enter Paradise.

Purification
الطُّهُورُ شَطْرُ الإِيمَانِ
Purification is half of faith.
Narrated by Abu Malik al-Ash'ari
أَلاَ أَدُلُّكُمْ عَلَى مَا يَمْحُو اللَّهُ بِهِ الْخَطَايَا وَيَرْفَعُ بِهِ الدَّرَجَاتِ قَالُوا بَلَى يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ قَالَ إِسْبَاغُ الْوُضُوءِ عَلَى الْمَكَارِهِ وَكَثْرَةُ الْخُطَا إِلَى الْمَسَاجِدِ وَانْتِظَارُ الصَّلاَةِ بَعْدَ الصَّلاَةِ فَذَلِكُمُ الرِّبَاطُ
Shall I tell you what Allah uses to erase sins and raise your ranks? They said: 'Yes, O Messenger of Allah.' He said: 'Performing wudu thoroughly despite difficulty, taking many steps to the mosques, and waiting for the next prayer after prayer. That is the ribat (guarding).'

Righteousness and Manners
لاَ تَحْقِرَنَّ مِنَ الْمَعْرُوفِ شَيْئًا وَلَوْ أَنْ تَلْقَى أَخَاكَ بِوَجْهٍ طَلْقٍ
Do not belittle any good deed, even if it is meeting your brother with a cheerful face.
Narrated by Abu Dharr
إِنَّ اللَّهَ لاَ يَنْظُرُ إِلَى صُوَرِكُمْ وَأَمْوَالِكُمْ وَلَكِنْ يَنْظُرُ إِلَى قُلُوبِكُمْ وَأَعْمَالِكُمْ
Allah does not look at your appearances or your wealth, but He looks at your hearts and your deeds.
Narrated by Abu Hurairah
اتَّقِ اللَّهَ حَيْثُمَا كُنْتَ وَأَتْبِعِ السَّيِّئَةَ الْحَسَنَةَ تَمْحُهَا وَخَالِقِ النَّاسَ بِخُلُقٍ حَسَنٍ
Fear Allah wherever you are, follow a bad deed with a good deed and it will erase it, and treat people with good character.
Narrated by Abu Dharr
الْبِرُّ حُسْنُ الْخُلُقِ وَالإِثْمُ مَا حَاكَ فِي صَدْرِكَ وَكَرِهْتَ أَنْ يَطَّلِعَ عَلَيْهِ النَّاسُ
Righteousness is good character, and sin is whatever troubles your soul and you dislike people finding out about.
Narrated by Nawwas ibn Sam'an
لاَ يُؤْمِنُ أَحَدُكُمْ حَتَّى يُحِبَّ لأَخِيهِ مَا يُحِبُّ لِنَفْسِهِ
None of you truly believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself.

ارْحَمُوا مَنْ فِي الأَرْضِ يَرْحَمْكُمْ مَنْ فِي السَّمَاءِ
Show mercy to those on earth, and the One above the heavens will show mercy to you.

الظُّلْمُ ظُلُمَاتٌ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ
Oppression will be darkness on the Day of Resurrection.
Narrated by Abdullah ibn Umar
مَنْ نَفَّسَ عَنْ مُؤْمِنٍ كُرْبَةً مِنْ كُرَبِ الدُّنْيَا نَفَّسَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ كُرْبَةً مِنْ كُرَبِ يَوْمِ الْقِيَامَةِ وَمَنْ يَسَّرَ عَلَى مُعْسِرٍ يَسَّرَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ فِي الدُّنْيَا وَالآخِرَةِ
Whoever relieves a believer of a hardship of this world, Allah will relieve him of a hardship of the Day of Resurrection. Whoever makes things easy for one in difficulty, Allah will make things easy for him in this world and the Hereafter.

Remembrance and Supplication
إِذَا مَاتَ الإِنْسَانُ انْقَطَعَ عَنْهُ عَمَلُهُ إِلاَّ مِنْ ثَلاَثَةٍ إِلاَّ مِنْ صَدَقَةٍ جَارِيَةٍ أَوْ عِلْمٍ يُنْتَفَعُ بِهِ أَوْ وَلَدٍ صَالِحٍ يَدْعُو لَهُ
When a person dies, his deeds come to an end except for three: ongoing charity (sadaqah jariyah), knowledge from which others benefit, or a righteous child who prays for him.
Narrated by Abu Hurairah
مَنْ سَلَكَ طَرِيقًا يَلْتَمِسُ فِيهِ عِلْمًا سَهَّلَ اللَّهُ لَهُ بِهِ طَرِيقًا إِلَى الْجَنَّةِ
Whoever takes a path seeking knowledge, Allah will make easy for him a path to Paradise.
Narrated by Abu Hurairah
مَا اجْتَمَعَ قَوْمٌ فِي بَيْتٍ مِنْ بُيُوتِ اللَّهِ يَتْلُونَ كِتَابَ اللَّهِ وَيَتَدَارَسُونَهُ بَيْنَهُمْ إِلاَّ نَزَلَتْ عَلَيْهِمُ السَّكِينَةُ وَغَشِيَتْهُمُ الرَّحْمَةُ وَحَفَّتْهُمُ الْمَلاَئِكَةُ وَذَكَرَهُمُ اللَّهُ فِيمَنْ عِنْدَهُ
No people gather in one of the houses of Allah, reciting the Book of Allah and studying it among themselves, except that tranquility descends upon them, mercy covers them, the angels surround them, and Allah mentions them to those who are with Him.
Narrated by Abu Hurairah
أَحَبُّ الْكَلاَمِ إِلَى اللَّهِ أَرْبَعٌ سُبْحَانَ اللَّهِ وَالْحَمْدُ لِلَّهِ وَلاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ اللَّهُ وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ
The most beloved words to Allah are four: SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah), Alhamdulillah (Praise be to Allah), La ilaha illAllah (There is no god but Allah), and Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest).

الدُّعَاءُ هُوَ الْعِبَادَةُ
Supplication is worship.

Repentance
لَلَّهُ أَشَدُّ فَرَحًا بِتَوْبَةِ عَبْدِهِ مِنْ أَحَدِكُمْ سَقَطَ عَلَى بَعِيرِهِ وَقَدْ أَضَلَّهُ فِي أَرْضِ فَلاَةٍ
Allah is more joyful at the repentance of His servant than any of you would be if he found his lost camel in a barren land.

كُلُّ ابْنِ آدَمَ خَطَّاءٌ وَخَيْرُ الْخَطَّائِينَ التَّوَّابُونَ
Every son of Adam is a sinner, and the best of sinners are those who repent.
