Jami' at-Tirmidhi

لاَ تُقْبَلُ صَلاَةٌ بِغَيْرِ طُهُورٍ وَلاَ صَدَقَةٌ مِنْ غُلُولٍ

No prayer is accepted without purification, and no charity is accepted from stolen wealth.

Narrated by Abdullah ibn Umar

مِفْتَاحُ الصَّلاَةِ الطُّهُورُ وَتَحْرِيمُهَا التَّكْبِيرُ وَتَحْلِيلُهَا التَّسْلِيمُ

The key to prayer is purification, its beginning is the takbir (saying Allahu Akbar), and its end is the taslim (saying As-salamu alaykum).

Narrated by Ali ibn Abi Talib

أَوَّلُ مَا يُحَاسَبُ بِهِ الْعَبْدُ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مِنْ عَمَلِهِ صَلاَتُهُ

The first thing a servant will be held accountable for on the Day of Resurrection from his deeds is his prayer.

مَا مِنْ يَوْمٍ يُصْبِحُ الْعِبَادُ فِيهِ إِلاَّ مَلَكَانِ يَنْزِلاَنِ فَيَقُولُ أَحَدُهُمَا اللَّهُمَّ أَعْطِ مُنْفِقًا خَلَفًا وَيَقُولُ الآخَرُ اللَّهُمَّ أَعْطِ مُمْسِكًا تَلَفًا

There is no day upon which the servants wake except that two angels descend. One of them says: 'O Allah, give the one who spends a replacement.' And the other says: 'O Allah, give the one who withholds destruction.'

Narrated by Abu Hurairah

أَكْمَلُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِيمَانًا أَحْسَنُهُمْ خُلُقًا وَخِيَارُكُمْ خِيَارُكُمْ لِنِسَائِهِمْ

The most complete of the believers in faith is the best of them in character, and the best of you are those who are best to their women.

Narrated by Abu Hurairah

إِنَّمَا بُعِثْتُ لأُتَمِّمَ صَالِحَ الأَخْلاَقِ

I was only sent to perfect good character.

Narrated by Abu Hurairah

إِنَّ مِنْ أَحَبِّكُمْ إِلَيَّ وَأَقْرَبِكُمْ مِنِّي مَجْلِسًا يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ أَحَاسِنَكُمْ أَخْلاَقًا

The most beloved of you to me and the closest to me in seating on the Day of Resurrection are those with the best character.

Narrated by Jabir ibn Abdullah

مَا شَيْءٌ أَثْقَلُ فِي مِيزَانِ الْمُؤْمِنِ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ مِنْ خُلُقٍ حَسَنٍ

Nothing is heavier on the believer's scale on the Day of Resurrection than good character.

Narrated by Abu al-Darda

الْمُسْلِمُ أَخُو الْمُسْلِمِ لاَ يَظْلِمُهُ وَلاَ يَخْذُلُهُ وَلاَ يَحْقِرُهُ

A Muslim is the brother of a Muslim. He does not wrong him, forsake him, or look down on him.

Narrated by Abu Hurairah

طَلَبُ الْعِلْمِ فَرِيضَةٌ عَلَى كُلِّ مُسْلِمٍ

Seeking knowledge is an obligation upon every Muslim.

Narrated by Anas ibn Malik

إِنَّ الْعُلَمَاءَ وَرَثَةُ الأَنْبِيَاءِ إِنَّ الأَنْبِيَاءَ لَمْ يُوَرِّثُوا دِينَارًا وَلاَ دِرْهَمًا إِنَّمَا وَرَّثُوا الْعِلْمَ

The scholars are the heirs of the Prophets. The Prophets did not leave behind dinars or dirhams; they only left behind knowledge.

Narrated by Abu al-Darda

عَلَيْكُمْ بِالْجَمَاعَةِ وَإِيَّاكُمْ وَالْفُرْقَةَ فَإِنَّ الشَّيْطَانَ مَعَ الْوَاحِدِ وَهُوَ مِنَ الاِثْنَيْنِ أَبْعَدُ

Hold fast to the community and beware of division, for the Shaytan is with one alone and is further from two.

Narrated by Umar ibn Al-Khattab

ازْهَدْ فِي الدُّنْيَا يُحِبَّكَ اللَّهُ وَازْهَدْ فِيمَا عِنْدَ النَّاسِ يُحِبَّكَ النَّاسُ

Be detached from the world and Allah will love you. Be detached from what people have and people will love you.

Narrated by Sahl ibn Sa'd

مَنْ أَصْبَحَ مِنْكُمْ آمِنًا فِي سِرْبِهِ مُعَافًى فِي جَسَدِهِ عِنْدَهُ قُوتُ يَوْمِهِ فَكَأَنَّمَا حِيزَتْ لَهُ الدُّنْيَا بِحَذَافِيرِهَا

Whoever wakes up safe in his home, healthy in his body, with food for his day, it is as if the entire world has been gathered for him.

Narrated by Ubaidullah ibn Mihsan

مَنْ كَانَتِ الدُّنْيَا هَمَّهُ فَرَّقَ اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ أَمْرَهُ وَجَعَلَ فَقْرَهُ بَيْنَ عَيْنَيْهِ وَلَمْ يَأْتِهِ مِنَ الدُّنْيَا إِلاَّ مَا كُتِبَ لَهُ

Whoever makes the world his concern, Allah will scatter his affairs and place poverty before his eyes, and nothing of the world will come to him except what was written for him.

Narrated by Anas ibn Malik

انْظُرُوا إِلَى مَنْ أَسْفَلَ مِنْكُمْ وَلاَ تَنْظُرُوا إِلَى مَنْ هُوَ فَوْقَكُمْ فَهُوَ أَجْدَرُ أَنْ لاَ تَزْدَرُوا نِعْمَةَ اللَّهِ

Look at those below you, and do not look at those above you, for that is more likely to prevent you from belittling Allah's blessings upon you.

Narrated by Abu Hurairah

لَنْ تَزُولَ قَدَمَا عَبْدٍ يَوْمَ الْقِيَامَةِ حَتَّى يُسْأَلَ عَنْ عُمُرِهِ فِيمَ أَفْنَاهُ وَعَنْ عِلْمِهِ فِيمَ فَعَلَ وَعَنْ مَالِهِ مِنْ أَيْنَ اكْتَسَبَهُ وَفِيمَ أَنْفَقَهُ وَعَنْ جِسْمِهِ فِيمَ أَبْلاَهُ

The feet of a servant will not move on the Day of Resurrection until he is asked about his life and how he spent it, his knowledge and what he did with it, his wealth and how he earned it and spent it, and his body and how he used it.

Narrated by Abu Barzah al-Aslami

وَلَبِنَةٌ مِنْ ذَهَبٍ وَلَبِنَةٌ مِنْ فِضَّةٍ وَمِلاَطُهَا الْمِسْكُ الأَذْفَرُ وَحَصْبَاؤُهَا اللُّؤْلُؤُ وَالْيَاقُوتُ وَتُرْبَتُهَا الزَّعْفَرَانُ

A brick of gold and a brick of silver, its mortar is fragrant musk, its pebbles are pearls and rubies, and its soil is saffron.

حُفَّتِ الْجَنَّةُ بِالْمَكَارِهِ وَحُفَّتِ النَّارُ بِالشَّهَوَاتِ

Paradise is surrounded by hardships, and the Hellfire is surrounded by desires.

الدُّعَاءُ سِلاَحُ الْمُؤْمِنِ وَعِمَادُ الدِّينِ وَنُورُ السَّمَوَاتِ وَالأَرْضِ

Supplication is the weapon of the believer, the pillar of the religion, and the light of the heavens and the earth.

Narrated by Ali ibn Abi Talib

إِنَّ اللَّهَ حَيِيٌّ كَرِيمٌ يَسْتَحْيِي إِذَا رَفَعَ الرَّجُلُ إِلَيْهِ يَدَيْهِ أَنْ يَرُدَّهُمَا صِفْرًا خَائِبَتَيْنِ

Allah is Shy and Generous. When a person raises his hands to Him, He is shy to return them empty and disappointed.

Narrated by Salman al-Farisi

ادْعُوا اللَّهَ وَأَنْتُمْ مُوقِنُونَ بِالإِجَابَةِ وَاعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللَّهَ لاَ يَسْتَجِيبُ دُعَاءً مِنْ قَلْبٍ غَافِلٍ لاَهٍ

Call upon Allah with certainty that He will respond, and know that Allah does not answer a supplication from a heedless, distracted heart.

لاَ يَرُدُّ الْقَضَاءَ إِلاَّ الدُّعَاءُ وَلاَ يَزِيدُ فِي الْعُمُرِ إِلاَّ الْبِرُّ

Nothing repels divine decree except supplication, and nothing extends one's life except righteousness.

Narrated by Salman al-Farisi

قُلْ آمَنْتُ بِاللَّهِ ثُمَّ اسْتَقِمْ

Say: 'I believe in Allah,' then be steadfast.

Narrated by Sufyan ibn Abdullah

إِنِّي تَارِكٌ فِيكُمْ مَا إِنْ تَمَسَّكْتُمْ بِهِ لَنْ تَضِلُّوا بَعْدِي أَبَدًا كِتَابَ اللَّهِ وَسُنَّتِي

I am leaving among you that which, if you hold fast to it, you will never go astray after me: the Book of Allah and my Sunnah.

Narrated by Abu Hurairah

أَقْرَبُ مَا يَكُونُ الرَّبُّ مِنَ الْعَبْدِ فِي جَوْفِ اللَّيْلِ الآخِرِ فَإِنِ اسْتَطَعْتَ أَنْ تَكُونَ مِمَّنْ يَذْكُرُ اللَّهَ فِي تِلْكَ السَّاعَةِ فَكُنْ

The Lord is closest to the servant in the last part of the night. So if you are able to be among those who remember Allah at that hour, then do so.
